The leadership class at Touchstone includes all students in grades 3 -5. Our students have the opportunity to explore what it means to be a leader through guided discussion, group-projects, guest speakers, and charitable opportunities. The class chooses and works though a series of projects that help students discover and experience leadership roles at the school and community level.
In a time when communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills are critical for career success, we offer our students many opportunities to develop confidence when expressing their thoughts and ideas. It’s through a process of planning and executing leadership initiatives that Touchstone students are able to affect positive change in the school, the community and within themselves.
We strongly believe that learning needs to be authentic, our students have the chance to communicate what they have learned through presentations to fellow students, parents and new audiences. Students work independently and in groups to prepare special presentations on the projects they have completed. At a ‘Let’s Do Lunch” event at the school, they practice delivering their presentations for parents and friends. Finally, with the support of local businesses, leadership students deliver their presentations in a professional work environment to an audience of unfamiliar (but friendly!) adults.
Students graduate from Leadership class with a clear understanding of how they can be the positive change they want to see in their community. We are passionate about guiding our students to become clear communicators, who are equipped with the necessary experiences and skills to make an impact as effective leaders and team members.
