Parental involvement in school committees enables Touchstone to keep tuition costs affordable. The committees are also a great way to meet and socialize with other parents, while contributing to a great cause: your child’s school! Each family is expected to participate in at least one committee. Parents can choose from the following committees.
The Building Committee proves that Touchstone is a “hands–on” school. Our school facility is maintained by parents. From renovating our facility to snow removal, the building committee does it all. If you are handy, this committee is for you!
The Field Trip Committee selects and plans monthly field trips. Some field trips involve the whole school and others are class–specific. This committee also engages guest speakers for the school.
The Finance Committee is responsible for reviewing school budgets and from time to time, reviewing the financial policies of the school. The Finance Committee monitors the financial stability of the school and any programs related to finance, such as fundraising. This committee also ensures that the school’s bookkeeping and accounts are up–to–date and that annual returns are completed and remitted.
The Food Committee is responsible for setting food policies for the school (for example, no–nut, and no–junk food) and scheduling any special shared lunches throughout the year. Members of the committee also participate in scheduled kitchen cleaning activities and provide food for special events. In addition, the Food Committee is responsible for the Special Lunch Orders (Elementary classes only). On certain days, students can order special lunches from local restaurants. Parents responsible for these services organize the ordering, delivery and payment procedures.
The Fundraising Committee plans and oversees all parent involvement for the annual fund-raising event(s) that generates much-needed revenue for the school.
The Human Resources Committee brings the best and brightest teachers to our school. As required by student body growth, this committee works in all aspects of the teacher interviewing and selection process, from developing job descriptions to presenting job offers to successful candidates.
The Special Events Committee ensures that events, such as International Night and the Family BBQ, come off without a hitch. This committee is responsible for the logistics and set up of all Special Events, including staff appreciation and holiday and seasonal festivities.
Student Recruitment Committee
The Student Recruitment Committee assists with student recruitment events, social media and trade shows.
The Technology Committee provides support for the school’s computer hardware and software. The committee plans, implements, and maintains information technology (IT) related upgrades for the school. They also provide hands–on troubleshooting for teachers.
The Volunteer Coordinators manage all aspects of parent volunteering at the school.
The Legal Advisor acts as a resource to all committees on legal and contractual matters and ensures the school’s compliance with applicable legislation.
Scrip is a fundraising program in which families purchase gift cards issued by participating national retailers. For each gift card purchased, a percentage is retained by the school. Currently a portion raised by families is available to offset tuition.
